What to Do with Purged Items: To Consign, Donate or Sell Online?

Let’s set the scene.

You are in front of your closet. You’ve found the energy and you’ve done it! You successfully finished your closet’s spring purge and refresh. Maybe you’ve even gotten adventurous and decided to tackle your kids’ closets, as well.

And now, sitting smack dab in front of you, there it is…the stuff.

So. Much. Stuff.

Piles or bags of clothing, shoes, belts, hats—the list goes on—you name it, it’s right in front of you. Now you need to decide what exactly to do with everything. Sometimes this can be the most daunting problem of all.

It’s one thing to purge and edit; it’s something else to know what to do with everything left over. We get many questions about what to do with the pieces once they are no longer wanted

Jewelry Organization & Storage 101

It’s always amazing to see how much jewelry someone has collected throughout the years — sometimes without even realizing it. Between holiday and birthday gifts, anniversary presents, and everyday trinkets, it’s easy to acquire a lot of pieces and lose track of what you own, especially if you aren’t wearing them regularly. We also find that a lot of jewelry gets tossed in a drawer or bulky box that never gets opened, and is completely forgotten about all together. However, there are a few simple ways to organize your jewelry collection to stay on top of what you have and keep those pieces in great condition.

First, purge, purge, purge. Go through all your pieces one at a time and check each piece to see if it’s broken or needs mending. If it’s beyond repair, toss it. Then, pull out the pieces you no longer wear. If it’s still in good shape donate it, or consign it. If you haven’t worn something in years, it’s very unlikely you will anytime soon. Let it go.

Once you’ve decided what to keep and what to toss it’s time to focus on organizing and storing your collection. We love using The Container Store’s Stackers Classic Premium Stackable Jewelry Box to safely hold our favorite pieces.

There are dozens of different Stackers trays designed to fit any type of jewelry assortment, whether you have a ton of statement earrings, rings, or watches. If you’re not exactly sure what trays will work best for your jewelry we suggest starting with a Stackers Premium Jewelry Storage Kit. The kit comes with a lidded top that holds everything from rings and earrings to smaller watches as well as two other stacking trays.

There are even Stackers designed specifically to hold sunglasses. Hallelujah! We love storing our sunnies in the Classic Lidded Eyewear Storage Box, because it keeps glasses scratch free — unlike the bottom of our purses where they typically end up — and the clear lid makes it easy to see what pairs are in the box quickly.

As for necklaces, we prefer to hang them instead of laying them flat or keeping them in a box. We like to use this gold necklace stand or command hooks to help prevent them from tangling. There are few things more frustrating than rushing to get ready and grabbing a necklace only to find it’s completely tangled up.

If you like to travel then you know just how hard it can be to keep up with little baubles and bits. Luckily, there are Stackers Folding Travel Jewelry Storage Trays that are perfect for keeping your jewelry organized while you’re on the go.

Desk Organization Ideas to Maximize Productivity

June 7, 2023 Katie Savage and Brooke Levy
work from home organization

Whether you’re used to working from home full time or a college student studying for exams, you’ll quickly realize the importance of having a designated workspace, and how important it is to keep that area organized as a cluttered space can often decrease productivity.

There are several easy ways to help keep your workspace at home in order without having to add a ton of ugly and clunky office supplies. You don’t need a ton of products or need to spend a lot of money to quickly and efficiently organize the space. A few of the right tools can make all of the difference and help keep your desk clutter-free and productivity on track.

This month we made over our at-home workspace with the help of The Container Store, which has hundreds of organization products to help maximize home office space. And, we have to say we are really digging the store’s line of clear, acrylic desktop supplies, because it allows you to stay organized without sacrificing aesthetics.

Work From Home Organization

The Acrylic Desktop File lets you keep all your important documents labeled and in one place, so you don’t have to frantically search through random piles of papers stacked on your desk while you’re on camera during a virtual call!

Having a ton of paperwork often calls for a stapler, and as cheesy as it sounds we’re suckers for matching accessories. Coordinating items help make a space look more polished and organized, so we opted for an acrylic and gold stapler opposed to the traditional chunky, black staplers that remind us of being back in elementary school.

The Acrylic Desktop Mail Center is ideal for storing work essentials and keeping them within reach. It will neatly store anything from your iPad and notebooks to pens and pencils. We also always keep a notepad close by to jot down daily to-do lists, sporadic thoughts, and inspirational ideas. The Poppin Sticky Ball is a personal favorite — not only does it have plenty of paper with 12 different sides that each offer 25 stickies, but it’s a lot of fun to look. We’ve also tossed it around a few times while brainstorming.

For client meetings and when we’re on the go we opt for the Poppin Soft Cover Notebook. It looks professional, is durable, comes with an interior pocket that’s perfect for holding business cards, and has an elastic closure strap to keep everything safely in place.

Like the desktop mail center, the Landscape Acrylic Paper Drawer provides a convenient place to store desk must-haves, extra printing paper, or chargers. The drawers easily slide in and out and are also a great place to keep smaller items like paper clips, staples, and push pins corralled.

We went a step further with our organization and added Mini Stack Boxes to the bottom drawer to keep those tiny items separated. Then we used museum gel on the bottom of each to keep them from moving around.

No desk is complete without a personal photo in a pretty frame!
